Magellan Development’s Lakeshore East is Chicago’s most successful residential community, an architectural and botanical triumph and a cultural achievement. The 28-acre, $4 billion mixed-use neighborhood rising near the confluence of Lake Michigan and the Chicago River is adjacent to Chicago’s famed Millennium Park, Magnificent Mile, and Central Business District. The largest downtown development in any major U.S. city, Lakeshore East blends all the elements of a traditional city neighborhood. Mauge was selected to develop branding and identity to flow through all collateral materials.

The Millennial and the Apartment Market

A first-time apartment for first-time big-city transplants, with all the amenities and luxuries positioned to feel like home. The first of a planned national rollout, Kenect Chicago was proof of concept of the benefits of more community space in apartment living. Before the site's abandoned warehouse was demolished to make way, local artists tagged the building to commemorate the event and foster interest in Kenect.

The Story of MILA

John Buck, the company that reignited the Magnificent Mile into a retail powerhouse, approached Mauge to brand the first new luxury residential on Michigan Avenue in a decade. The forty Class-A floors and 22,000 square feet of retail that would become MILA needed an iconic brand to fit the new retail milieu of the Millennium Mile.

How to Open Up a Town

An upper-middle class bedroom community in Chicagoland, St. John was struggling to draw new business development. While St. John's community-mindedness certainly gave it an edge, it was having trouble standing out among so much regional competition. The Town asked Mauge for new assets to make it shine and let the region know it's open for business, a motif threaded through all of the Town’s new collateral.

Kibbitznest and the Quest for Face-to-Face Time

The proprietors of what would become Kibbitznest: Books, Brews & Blarney approached Mauge in the middle of their own quest: What do we lose when people stop talking face-to-face? What happens if we stop having those big idea, collegial, liberal arts conversations? And if we build a space, would anybody show up? Three years later, the Nest continues to grow and receive accolades from around the city for its "no wifi" approach to creating a welcoming space with ample seating, rows and rows of books, amazing coffee and cocktails, and plenty of room to connect.
